The United Arab Emirates are a popular destination for tourists, entrepreneurs and “fortune seekers” alike. It is a country with favourable tax legislation, and the government there is looking for skilled (Western) people to strengthen their economy.

We often deal with people who would like to move to the UAE (or are already there) and who are in the process of obtaining their visa/residence permit. We also arrange legalisations for Dutch entrepreneurs who, for example, want to conclude agreements with Emirati companies. Finally, we can also legalise medical certificates that are required to bring medication from the Netherlands to the UAE.

Depending on the type of document, it must be legalised by the following institutions (we will arrange this for you):

  • DUO: for diplomas/degrees
  • CAK: for medicinal declarations
  • CoC: for (commercial) agreements and other business documents
  • Ministry of Foreign Affairs: all documents (diplomas, medical certificates, commercial documents, marriage and birth certificates)
  • Embassy of the UAE: all documents

If the document is not written in English or Arabic, a translation is also required.

Living and working in the UAE: which documents are required?

To apply for a visa/residence permit/work permit, the following documents are required (depending on your situation), which must be legalised by the UAE embassy:

You can request a birth certificate from your local council. The council issues the document in multiple languages, so no translation is required. See an example here. These documents are first to be processed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The marriage certificate is also issued by your local council. Make sure you request the multilingual/English version, otherwise an English or Arabic translation will be required for use in the UAE. See here for an example.

Medical certificates are issued by a qualified doctor. Make sure it is in English. See here for an example.

Diplomas obtained in the Netherlands from an accredited institution can be legalised for use in the UAE. The diploma must be an original and must bear the signature of the management/examination board. Send us a scan of the document and we will check whether it can be legalised.
